You need to remember that Terry is not using gum but "gloy" which is not
the same thing. Gloy is the brand name of a very common paper glue
found in most office supply stores in the UK. It is not available in the
US. I have tried it and find it very useful but it handles much
differently than gum. For example, you can brush or water spray a gloy
print right from the beginning of the water development and not
significantly hard the print. Try that with gum and you end up with a
print to add to the discard pile. In my own experiments with gum
(various kinds) glyoxal always added to the print quality. See the
