I find this discussion on peroxide both alarming and confusing. 35% seems a
little extreme and potentially dangerous. We buy peroxide from pharmacies
here at either 20 or 30 vols which I assume means 2 or 3%. I get mine from a
friend who is a hairdresser. He uses to bleach ladies' hair. He tells me to
leave the cap of the bottle slightly loose to stop it going off.
Hairdresser - chemist - who am I to believe? I also gather it is good for
sterilising your false teeth when you go to bed. Its only real use is to do
a cabaret act by putting a few drops in cyanotype wash when doing a
demonstration. ( Judy , tell me if it is accelerating the oxidisation
or whether it is totally pointless exercise.)
As to whether it is archivally stable - who cares? If somebody comes to me
in 75 years time and complains about faded prints I shall be past caring.
The only process that gives trouble on this score is vdb/kalli. It's quite
good for printing on T-shirts but not much else. But then it is a synthetic
process invented by a chemist who appears not to have made any prints. Now
you can't accuse Fox Talbot of that.
But don't take me seriously as I am a black & white printer.
