By coincidence I just did a test scan of a 1980's-era 120 Tri-X negative at
500%/360ppi. Viewing in PShop at 100% we're right on the edge of resolving
the grain. Increasing this resolution from 1800ppi to 4800 might give you
quite a good look at grain structure. Give it a try with the 4870.
