Maria, the problem with too much sizing is that it can clog the tooth
and prevent the gum from adhering to the paper. But the only way to find
out how much is too much, is to try it and see.

Glyoxal has a fairly long history of use by gum printers, certainly much
longer than glutaraldehyde. Some gum printers on this list have found
that if the glyoxal isn't rinsed right away, the sized paper will turn
an ivory color over time, instead of staying white. But the consensus
seems to be that a quick rinse just after the sizing bath will take care
of that problem entirely. 15 ml of 40% glyoxal in a liter of gelatin is
what many people use.
