This is somewhat, but not entirely, speculative -- that tube fluorescents
give a more even light than screw-in bulbs. That is, when I used the
Nu-Arc, which had a single bulb (tho with a serious diffuser), there was
more edge falloff than I saw with the tubes. (Early on I used several
screw-in photo floods, which also had complications for even light.)
