First off I take your comments to heart. It is true that I have always had
a mean streaks but I do try to keep it in tow.

The mean streak was bred into during my tenure in the United States Marine
Corps -- 1960-64. Once in a while the mean spiritedness pops up. And yes,
within 5 minutes of arriving at the Receiving Barracks at the Marine Corps
Recruit Depot, San Diego, Jan 29, 1960, I knew I had joined the "wrong crowd."

My apologies for not disciplining any of my hosts for any negative comments
concerning some folks on this list. I cannot read all of the posts and left
most of the management of those conferences to my hosts.

But let's do a reality check. There are many good people here on the list,
lots and lots, and many are my friends, but like all lists, there are a few
clinkers. Some people are provocative by nature and most lists have at
least one who is constantly involved in every squabble. Sometimes you'll
find one or two people treating it like it was their personal fiefdom.
Sometimes there is a cadre of them. I used to have a semi-automatic sign up
sheet for this list on my web site. I even continued it after I had reduced
my presence here. I took it down after receiving numerous complaints about
the alt-photo list and several of its members. When this occurred with
several highly respected members of the photographic art world and it began
to reflect badly on Bostick & Sullivan I took it down.

One of the things I do not allow on my discussion group is echo trolls. Now
you might ask "What is an echo troll?" Here's how it works. Trolls are
people who come into a list anonymously just to be provocative. For
instance an atheist on a Christian List or vice versa. Just there to stir
up trouble.

An echo troll is a list member, often involved in lots of controversy and
who wants to continue being provocative, but doesn't want to appear to be
the one starting every squabble. How do you do it? It's easy, just trot off
to a free web based email place like Hotmail, get an account and sign up
anonymously under some cute name. Now you have two alter egos, one to post
the troll, and now your real nom can chime in and post the echo. You can
now agree with yourself -- wow, that's fun, and immediately it starts to
look like a crowd. Never ever post against an anonymous troll as it will
implicate you, at least it does to the more knowledgeable folks who have
been around for a while. A good list will not allow anonymous postings from
Hotmail or Yahoo type mail accounts, some can't avoid it due to technical
restrictions but they can be unsubscribed. They are bad for everyone as
they have a tendency to cast unwarranted suspicion towards certain
provocative members.

For the record, I am Dick Sullivan, born February 5, 1940 I am a partner of
Bostick & Sullivan. Formally with a the Bad Crowd. USMC serial number
1896505, Jan 28, 1960, Jan 28, 1964. SS# 569-52-8486. Addr: 1541 Center Dr.
Santa Fe, NM, 87505. What I say are my words out of my mouth and I am
responsible for them. I don't hide.

By the way, who are you?

Cheers.

Callie Type provokes:

>Congratulations to Dick for this accomplishment. The entire crew at
>Bostick and Sullivan has always been a joy to work with. Several years
>ago, when I first joined this list, Dick's wit and advice were a constant
>plus. But then something happened. Perhaps he joined with the "wrong
>crowd". In any event, he developed a mean streak and went too far out on
>a limb with some obviously personally biased shenanigans. At one time
>forum moderators at his own web list were posting questionable
>mean-spirited comments directed towards people prominent on THIS
>list. Hopefully, those times are behind us. I miss the OLD Dick
>Sillivan, and I hope he takes this proud occasion as an opportunity to return.
