You can get by with any arrangement that draws large quantities of air over your shoulder, past the work surface, and outside -- such as a good, strong window fan blowing out. Do be careful WHERE it is blowing -- not nice to asphyxiate the neighbors (no matter how much you may think they deserve it...).
