Clear Gesso? Could it be plain rabbit skin glue then? AFAIK, traditional gesso is rabbit skin glue + chalk (calcium carbonate) + (perhaps) white pigment (zinc or titanium). I always thought what makes gesso gritty is the chalk component. Even a little bit of it would "cloud" the transparency. Or, is it clear acrylic gesso (= plain acrylic medium in other words)? I guess almost every ready-made gesso is based on acrylic...
